The Cognitive Science Society held their Annual Meeting here in Toronto from July 27th - 30th 2022. This year's meeting hosted the latest theories and data from the world's best cognitive science researchers. No surprise, we found many UofT faculty members and students in the programme! The Submitted papers have been published in the Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society, 44(44).
UofT papers include:
- "Communicative Need Modulates Lexical Precision Across Semantic Domains: A Domain-Level account of Efficient Communication" by Laurestine Bradford (former MA student now at McGill University), Guillaume Thomas (Faculty) and Yang Xu (Department of Computer Science, Cognitive Science UofT).
- "How do young children interpret conditionals?" From Amina Shmanova (Department of Cognitive Science UofT), Myrto Grigoroglou (Faculty) and Patricia Ganea (Applied Psychology and Human Development UofT).
- "Do I need to repeat myself? Getting to the root of the Other Accent Effect" by Madeline E. Yu (Department of Psychology UTM), Jessamyn Schertz (Faculty) and Elizabeth K. Johnson (Department of Psychology UTM).
- "LSTMs Can Learn Basic Wh- and Relative Clause Dependencies in Norwegian" from Anastasia Kobzeva (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), Suhas Arhalli (John Hopkins University), Tal Linzen (New York University) and Dave Kush (Faculty).
Overall, this was a VERY eventful conference for our linguists! 🎉🎉🎉
